Hyunsil Lucia Roh (violin) - Hyunsil Roh known as “Lucia”, was recently appointed as the conductor of Coquitlam Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Junior Division. Prior to arriving in Canada in 2015, she was dedicated to be a teaching artist in Korea Arts and Culture Education Service’s El Sistema program. Lucia completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, her graduate string quartet from UW-Madision presented the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in live performances and educational presentations in elementary schools throughout southeastern Wisconsin. She also holds a Master of Music degree from Rice University, and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance with distinction from the Eastman School of Music. She enjoys a multi-faceted career as a recitalist, chamber musician, and educator throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Outside of music, Lucia likes wines, and practicing hot yoga, and taking a walk with her husband, Jake, and 4-year-old-son.
Ju Dee Ang (violin) - originally from Singapore, Ju Dee Ang completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the guidance of Sally Chisholm at the University of Wisconsin, where she was a member of the graduate string quartet. Previously, she completed a Master of Music degree at Indiana University, where she studied with Atar Arad, formerly of the Cleveland Quartet. Locally, she has performed with the Vancouver Island Symphony, and is an extra musician with the Vancouver Symphony.
Barbara Irschick (viola) - obtained her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from UBC and then went to New York and Toronto for further study. While living in Ontario she was a member of the Windsor Symphony for six seasons. Since returning to BC she has played with the Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Symphony. She is a member of Lions Gate Sinfonia and is an active freelance performer around the lower mainland.
Shin-Jung Nam (cello) - originally from Daegu, South Korea, Shin-Jung has a Masters of Music degree from UBC and performs with many orchestras in BC, including The Kamloops Symphony, The Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, The Okanagan Symphony, The Chilliwack Symphony and many others. She performs on the baroque cello as well, and has studied early music performance with Marc Destrube, Rainer Zipperling, Alex Weinmann, Chloe Meyers and Christina Mahler. She has performed with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra/BOMP orchestra, the Early Music Vancouver Festival Orchestra, and has performed in chamber ensembles at the Vancouver Bach Festival. She also enjoys performing Mariachi music on the Guitarron with Las Estrellas de Vancouver.
